This fireplace was built original to our house in 1967. This photo was taken in 1969 which means that we've been looking at this at this brick wall for nearly 40 years... about time for a change...
January 2006
This means we have to come up with some kind of design...

We've been looking at this at this brick wall for nearly 40 years... about time for a change... This is the look we'll be aiming for... We decided that while we're at it we'll convert to a gas log...Here we have the wood stove removed, the fire box & chimney professionally
cleaned (and inspected), and I've started removing the slate tiles from the raised hearth... the gas log and line installed...The gas log and line installed...The Plan is... to attach furring strips to these bricks,
then attach drywall to cover the bricks, as well as the gas line...
I covered the gas line with 1/8" steel built into the furring strips to
protect the line from puncture by the drywall fasteners... shown here...

Tiles installed around the fireplace opening and on the hearth..The drywall is up, mudded and taped ready for paint....
...the glass doors installed... and the fire lit......time for cake......and a piece of coffee...Well... when you've finished watching the paint dry....
